Do you love the aromatic taste of wormwood? Then the ALANDIA Wormwood Bitters are a must try! We developed them to experience the full flavor of Absinthe's iconic ingredient: Wormwood. Therefore, our Absinthe Bitters are made of nothing more than grande wormwood (artemisia absinthium), this means the bottle contains 100% wormwood (no anise or fennel). Nothing more and nothing less. The aromatic but non-licorice taste is achieved by a blend of distilled and macerated wormwood intensified by vapor distilled wormwood oil. The Absinthe Wormwood Bitters are bottled in a dripper bottle for easy dosage. The alcohol level is set at 40% by vol. (80 proof), so that you can use them as well for other creative creations (see next paragraph).

Absinthe Wormwood Bitters: How to use them

First of all, you can add a few drops of the Bitters to your glass of Absinthe to intensify the wormwood taste. We recommend 30-35 drops for one glass. This sounds a lot but 30 drops are just 0.05 oz (1.5 ml). In cocktails, the Bitters add complexity with a bitter twist. Very nice drinks for the Cocktail Bitters are for example the classic Sazerac Absinthe Cocktail or Old Fashioned. But of course you can use the Absinthe Bitters as well for any drink of your choice. For example add a few drops to beer, vodka, gin or any soft drink or juice (Coke, Sprite and grape juice are delicious). You will be surprised, what these drops will do to the taste! The fascinating aspect of the Wormwood Bitters is that you can use them like flavor drops to give everything a Green Fairy touch. We actually used the Bitters already for cooking and added a good portion to our favorite granola cookie recipe. We love the wormwood twist!

Absinthe, Wormwood & Thujone, what is the hype all about?

We all know, Absinthe will not make you freak out and you will not see pink elephants on the wall. But drinking Absinthe is different to drinking other spirits. Primarily, because of its rich history. Oscar Wilde once wrote: "After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world." This statement in terms of the effect of drinking Absinthe is of course exaggerated. You will not hallucinate, Absinthe is "just" (high-proof) alcohol. But still, drinking Absinthe is a unique and authentic experience. No other drink has so many drinking rituals. And no other drink influenced the work of artists and poets at its time as much as Absinthe did. Therefore, drinking Absinthe comes with this very special aura of nostalgia. We love Absinthe for what it is...

Frequently Asked Questions about the Product

Wormwood bitters are highly concentrated bitter drops made from wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). They are used drop by drop and are traditionally used to flavor cocktails, long drinks, or aperitifs. They can also be used to enhance the flavor of Absinthe.

Unlike Absinthe, wormwood bitters are not a drink but a flavoring additive. They are significantly more bitter, are only used in small quantities, and their flavor is clearly reminiscent of wormwood.

Depending on the drink, just a few drops are enough to give cocktails or spirits a bitter, herbal depth. They go particularly well with classic cocktails, gin, vermouth, or non-alcoholic bitter drinks. Since Absinthe already has a strong herbal note, the bitters can be used in a higher concentration. We recommend a full dropper (20-30 drops).

The taste is intensely bitter, herbal, and dry, with a distinct wormwood note. Just a few drops define the flavor profile of a drink.

The bitters are aimed at bartenders, cocktail lovers and adventurous connoisseurs who want to refine or intensify drinks with a classic vermouth bitterness.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
