Absinthe Thujon 33 is not a medicine, but with 33 mg/l thujone and 40% alcohol this Absinthe essence can be used for experimental healing. Thujon 33 is not a conventional Absinthe, but rather a tincture / essence. Accordingly, Thujon 33 is consumed differently. It is used in addition to Absinthe. This means you first fill your Absinthe glass with the Absinthe of your choice. Then you place the Absinthe spoon with a sugar cube on the glass. Now you put 5-10 drops on the sugar cube, depending on your preference. Finally, pour ice-cold water over the sugar. Prepared is your pimped glass of Absinthe! For any possible side effects, consult your pharmacist :-). An Absinthe that harmonizes well with Thujon 33 is Strong68.

Absinthe & Thujone, what are the effects?

Firstly, we must emphasize that Absinthe is not a drug. That is, many stories surrounding the effects of Absinthe are rather myths. Absinthe won't make you freak out and you will not see pink elephants on the wall. But drinking Absinthe is different to drinking other spirits. It can give you a mental activation, and you might see things a little differently after a few glasses. Oscar Wilde once wrote: "After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world."

The quote of Oscar Wilde might be a bit exaggerated, but drinking Absinthe is different from other spirits (vodka, rum, etc.). This is partly due to its high alcohol content. Absinthe typically has 68% alcohol by volume. Therefore, Absinthe is quite a bit stronger than other spirits, which are in the 35-44% range. This high alcohol content can explain much of Absinthe's effect, as the body is simply not used to this high alcohol content. From a purely medical point of view, thujone is a neurotoxin. However, you would have to ingest several grams of thujone for the toxic effect to become active. Absinthe, as well as Thujon 33, has "only" 33 mg/l, i.e. the amount is very small. That's why you don't have to worry when drinking Thujon 33. So the medicine bottle is rather a fun experience than a real "test of courage".

The number 33 refers to the legally permitted maximum thujone level of 33 mg/kg. This absinthe deliberately utilizes this limit, thus consciously highlighting the historical core ingredient of absinthe.

Thujone is the ingredient that has historically been strongly associated with absinthe.Thujon 33This brings this topic to the forefront and shows what absinthe with the maximum permitted thujone content actually tastes like – without myths or exaggeration.

The increased thujone content results in a more pronounced wormwood bitterness. However, Thujon 33 is not a classic absinthe. It omits the anise ingredient and tastes more like a digestive bitter.

Thujon 33 is a modern bottling. It draws on the discussion and significance of thujone from the past, but is reinterpreted in terms of taste.

This absinthe is aimed at curious beginners and experienced absinthe drinkers who want to consciously engage with the topic of thujone.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
