Absinthe Jade Verte Suisse's story and recipe

This fine Swiss Absinthe was almost lost forever if it had not been for the resurfacing of original, unopened bottles, which Jade Liqueurs was able to secure for preservation. Using proprietary analytical techniques, Jade Liqueurs has painstakingly resurrected this beautiful liquor from extinction. Absinthe Jade Verte Suisse is a recreation of the original C. F. Berger 65 Absinthe Verte. Jade Absinthe Verte Suisse is crafted entirely by hand using select botanicals from original sources. Distillation takes place in Absinthe alembics that were obtained directly from Pernod Fils in the early 20th century. This Absinthe delivers an experience characteristic of the best Swiss style Absinthes.

Upon tasting this Absinthe, you will be pleasantly stimulated with the way it quickly asserts its refined fortitude with a bold fragrant scent, full-bodied, rounded mouthfeel, and distinct herbal notes that linger on the palate. It serves as both an ideal apéritif and digestive to accompany the heartiest of dining selections.

Historical background: The Berger Distillery

Since 1823 Berger Absinthe has been distilled in Couvet in the Swiss canton of Neufchâtel. However, the prohibition of the Green Fairy in 1917 brought Berger Absinthe a fatal blow. But Charles Frédéric Berger, a Swiss merchant (pronounced "bergueur"), had already made his son responsible for the distillery in Couvet and had great plans. He wanted to conquer the French market with the opening of another factory in Marseille, as the taste of anise had always been appreciated at the Mediterranean coast. In 1923, the first Berger aniseed liquor was produced in the new distillery, a substitute for Absinthe, which was no less successful in the following years...

Frequently Asked Questions about the Product

Jade Verte Suisse is a reproduction of the famous Berger absinthe from the Belle Époque period. Before its prohibition, it was one of the best-known Swiss absinthes and was considered particularly high-quality and well-balanced.

The absinthe is distilled in France by the internationally renowned absinthe expert Ted Breaux. Breaux is not only a master distiller but also a chemist and is considered one of the leading specialists in historical absinthe reconstructions.

For the development process, an original, historic Berger absinthe bottle was chemically analyzed. Based on this analysis, the recipe was reconstructed as faithfully as possible to the original. The goal was to replicate the taste, structure, and character of the original absinthe as closely as possible.

This absinthe is characterized by a balanced, mild, and fresh taste. The aromas are harmonious and clear, without excessive bitterness. Its natural, poetic green color underscores the classic Verte style.

The CF Berger brand originates from Couvet in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, a historic center of absinthe production. After the absinthe ban, Berger relocated parts of its production to France, where it successfully produced anise-flavored spirits. Jade Verte Suisse commemorates the original absinthe tradition of this distillery.

Frequently Asked Questions General

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit whose characteristic taste is primarily derived from wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and became widely known in the 19th century.

Absinthe is traditionally diluted with ice-cold water, which is slowly dripped into the glass – often over a sugar cube. This preparation allows the aromas to unfold and creates the typical "louche" effect, where the spirit becomes milky and cloudy.

The high alcohol content serves as a carrier for the subtle herbal aromas and preserves them. Absinthe is therefore not intended for pure consumption, but is traditionally drunk diluted with water.

Absinthe is a traditional herbal spirit, whose characteristic taste is mainly due to wormwood, anise, and fennel. It originated in the border region between Switzerland and France and gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.

For the classic preparation, an Absinthe glass, an Absinthe spoon for the sugar cube, and a carafe or fountain with ice-cold water are used. These tools allow for slow dilution and ensure a balanced taste experience.
